The 2026 Senate Campaign: Updates

A RUMBLE IN THE DISTANCE

In case my reader hasn’t been paying attention this morning, let me quote from CNN:

DEMOCRATS RETAKE CONGRESS IN STUNNING BLOW TO TRUMP

Long time readers are well aware that this result is not surprising; indeed, there’s some disappointments, such as in Idaho, where Senator Risch (R) has retained his seat with ease.

But this is a lesson from the electorate to both Parties. No matter how much Democrats and their leftish allies strain to play it as a mandate of their policies, in reality this is a solid rejection of the current extremism on the right; it would be a logical error to assume that this election justifies madness on the left. The Democrats have, despite Republican spittle, a good, if not great, history in the economic realm, better than that of the Republican Party since 1990 or thereabouts, and they should be riding that hard as a first priority.

Then comes cleanup. The priorities of the electorate are a great place to start: root out corruption, take back Congressional responsibilities such as tariffs, eliminate Trump’s tariffs, begin the process of rebuilding government services that the amateurs in the Republican Party destroyed in their arrogance, take steps to save Social Security.

Then comes open questions, such as Medicare for All.

And all this comes with very hard questions: how to terminate Trump’s War, how to ramp up aid to Ukraine, do we impeach Trump or would Vance be worse, and more.

There’s a lot of discussion of non-governmental projects to be had: how do we reform both Parties, starting with the Republicans? That’s where it needs to start.

And now I have to run off to work. As ever, feel free to email me with thoughts.
