WaPo shows how President Trump’s understanding of reality is costing him more votes even as he secures more money:
Carl Runefelt, a cryptocurrencies-focused streamer known as “the Moon,” has 2.2 million followers on TikTok but doesn’t follow politics, so he was excited the first time he heard a major politician talk about bitcoin on the world stage. He bought some extra bitcoin to celebrate the first pro-crypto U.S. president and also bought a little of the president’s own token.
Now the value of those $TRUMP coins has crashed, the U.S. crypto reserve President Donald Trump promised hasn’t amounted to much, and the enthusiasm for Trump in comments and message boards has turned into disappointment and animosity.
“Trump was the hero in crypto, like, a couple of years ago, and now it’s like the exact opposite,” Runefelt said in an interview. “Crypto already has a branding of ‘it’s just a bunch of scams and scammers,’ and this didn’t help because now even the top guy did the same thing that people hate.”
It’s an article of woe, of folks who don’t understand Trump’s a ravening wolf in sheep’s clothing.
But this shouldn’t be unexpected. When Trump first stepped into the cryptocurrency arena, there were warnings that anything he touches becomes a disaster:
CNN noted that the release of the meme coin had raised “serious ethics concerns,” but those who participate in the industry were less gentle. One wrote: “Trump’s sh*tcoin release has caused possibly the greatest overnight loss of credibility in presidential history. He made $60B. Great for Trump family, terrible for this country and hopes we had for the Trump presidency.”
One victim wondered why Trump needs so much money, why he victimizes others. I refer him to one of my favorite sources, Chad Bauman.
What strikes me here is that Trump is trying to both have his cake and at eat it, too. If he scoops up the money, he’ll lose more and more votes. If he loses votes, the midterms become more and more of a loss for him.
He’ll be known as a loser. One of the greatest losers in American history.
