Word Of The Day

Sidechain:

A sidechain is a designation for a blockchain ledger that runs in parallel to a primary blockchain. Entries from the primary blockchain (where said entries typically represent digital assets) can be linked to and from the sidechain; this allows the sidechain to otherwise operate independently of the primary blockchain (e.g., by using an alternate means of record keeping, alternate consensus algorithm, etc.). Noted in “4,000 BTC (~$320 million) stolen from Liquid Network by claimed whitehats, 90% returned,” Molly White (no relation), Web3 is Going Just Great:

An unauthorized withdrawal of 3,998.5 BTC (~$320 million) from the Liquid Network, a bitcoin , prompted a network halt. By disabling nodes that  between Liquid and the bitcoin mainchain, attackers are limited in their ability to cash out via bridge. Blockstream, the developers of Liquid Network, also said they had contacted exchanges to ask them to pause LBTC deposits and withdrawals, cutting off another avenue.

Funny, I haven’t see the term Web3 anywhere in years.
