Word Of The Day

Geomancy:

Geomancy (Greek: γεωμαντεία, “earth divination”) is a method of divination that interprets markings on the ground or the patterns formed by tossed handfuls of soilrocks, or sand. The most prevalent form of divinatory geomancy involves interpreting a series of 16 figures formed by a randomized process that involves recursion followed by analyzing them, often augmented with astrological interpretations. Noted in “Superstition And The Chinese Real Estate Market,” Stuart Vyse, Skeptical Inquirer (May/June 2020):

Feng shui is a belief system based on concept of chi (or qi), the life force that is a foundational concept in Chinese traditional medicine and purported to be present in humans and all nature. Feng shui is a form of geomancy that, when applied to residential houses, as well as to commercial and public buildings, suggests that the design of the building and its placement in the surrounding landscape will affect the fortunes and wellbeing of its inhabitants (Matthews 2018).
