Describing her recent work, which <a href=\"http:\/\/futuregenerationartprize.org\/en\/news\/157700\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/futuregenerationartprize.org\/en\/news\/157700&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1498082908629000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGFlF-OEMfvC32CnGKM0-KCD0RZHw\">opened simultaneously<\/a> with the Biennale in Venice, she told Al-Monitor that the Turkish regime\u2019s \u201cmoment of error\u201d came during last year\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/pulse\/originals\/2017\/03\/turkey-coup-attempt-indictment-issued-questions-persist.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/pulse\/originals\/2017\/03\/turkey-coup-attempt-indictment-issued-questions-persist.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1498082908630000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFBROEKA41HYWYyrqUkpDl_OuGO4g\">attempted military coup<\/a>. \u201cWhat we saw in the <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_578353252\"><span class=\"aQJ\">July 15<\/span><\/span> attempted coup was the realization that Turkey\u2019s institutions had become an empty shell,\u201d she told Al-Monitor.<\/p>\n<p>Her recent project in Venice wanted to outline uncertainty, unpredictability and polarization. The project, called \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/aslicavusoglu.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/FutureTenseMaster.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/aslicavusoglu.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/FutureTenseMaster.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1498082908630000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHwgiEWXxIjrfoN6_amR0cxAzpyVg\">Future Tense<\/a>,\u201d is a newspaper where the day\u2019s news is interpreted by fortunetellers, astrologers and clairvoyants. \u201cParallel to the increasing censorship and move away from being a state of law, a number of fortunetellers and astrologers emerged. Astrologers and clairvoyants were getting invited to newscasts, warning us about bombs by looking at the angles of the stars in the skies, providing us with a date for a rebellion depending on the position of Mars. The way they play with the language helps them avoid any censorship. I found 50 soothsayers of different political orientation and ethnicity and asked them what they thought would happen. They replied in their own way \u2014 and a very pluralistic paper [which Cavusoglu distributed in Venice] was published,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe different clairvoyants have found a way to escape censorship in a totalitarian regime. I aim to show both with my made-up newspaper and with my work in the Pera Exhibition that censorship creates a new language,\u201d Cavusoglu said, echoing Pepperstein&#8217;s statement that doublethink is just a beginning, in art as in politics.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Her work, which I did not read thoroughly, has a certain taste of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nostradamus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nostradamus<\/a> to it.
