Minerals in this group are formed by <b>serpentinization<\/b>, a hydration and <a title=\"Metamorphic rock\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Metamorphic_rock\">metamorphic<\/a> transformation of <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Ultramafic\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ultramafic\">ultramafic<\/a> rock from the Earth&#8217;s <a title=\"Mantle (geology)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mantle_%28geology%29\">mantle<\/a>. The <a title=\"Mineral alteration\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mineral_alteration\">mineral alteration<\/a> is particularly important at the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Sea floor\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sea_floor\">sea floor<\/a> at <a title=\"Plate tectonics\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plate_tectonics\">tectonic plate<\/a> boundaries.
