But no more punch line – Governor Bentley resigned as of today, as part of a plea deal in a sordid story of extra-marital sex and then the use of state resources to cover it up.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But you have to like John’s summary of the state of Alabama as of then, along with some timely updates from myself:<\/p>\n

So to recap:<\/p>\n

The governor is an embarrassment.<\/p>\n

The lieutenant governor is distrusted.<\/p>\n

The state’s top cop is fired under a cloud.<\/p>\n

The House Speaker is indicted [since convicted on 12 felonies and removed from office <\/a>– HW].<\/p>\n

The Legislature looks away.<\/p>\n

The attorney general, who is supposed to clean it all up, has a habit of stepping aside [and has since been appointed to the empty Senatorial post by … the governor – HW].<\/p>\n

And if any of this comes before the courts Roy Moore [removed from office for ethics violations, returned to office, now suspended <\/a>– HW] is there to decide right and wrong.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
