{"id":7668,"date":"2017-01-16T09:07:21","date_gmt":"2017-01-16T15:07:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=7668"},"modified":"2017-01-16T09:07:21","modified_gmt":"2017-01-16T15:07:21","slug":"the-intersection-of-government-journalism-and-commerce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2017\/01\/16\/the-intersection-of-government-journalism-and-commerce\/","title":{"rendered":"The Intersection of Government, Journalism, and Commerce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230; can be an ugly, dangerous place. <em><strong>AL Monitor&#8217;s<\/strong><\/em> Ben Caspit reports on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/pulse\/originals\/2017\/01\/israel-benjamin-netanyahu-ronald-lauder-arnon-mozes-police.html\" target=\"_blank\">contretemps<\/a> of Israel&#8217;s Prime Minister Netanyahu:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"essay\">Over the past few years, Israeli Prime Minister <a href=\"http:\/\/www.al-monitor.com\/pulse\/originals\/2016\/08\/israel-netanyahu-turns-likud-into-a-one-man-party.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-vivaldi-spatnav-clickable=\"1\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> has marked one particular individual as the arch-nemesis of his rule: Arnon Mozes, the publisher of Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper. In Netanyahu\u2019s world, Mozes is the ultimate demon, more than\u00a0Zionist Camp leader\u00a0Isaac Herzog or head of Yesh Atid Yair Lapid, and much more than Iran, the Palestinians\u00a0or any other existential danger facing Israel. Mozes\u00a0is the prime target, against whom Netanyahu fires off a paranoid, verbal barrage on a regular basis.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Netanyahu started referring to Mozes by his nickname \u201cNoni.\u201d He <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/netanyahu-pans-newspaper-mogul-for-slandering-him\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vivaldi-spatnav-clickable=\"1\">posted\u00a0about him<\/a>\u00a0on his Facebook page, with anyone who tried to undermine Netanyahu referred to as a \u201cNonist.\u201d All who agreed to listen would be treated to a detailed account of how all the prime minister\u2019s problems, haters\u00a0and enemies could be traced back to that same mysterious \u201cNoni.\u201d After his stunning victory \u2014\u00a0against all the odds \u2014\u00a0in the 2015 election, hundreds of Likud supporters surrounded Netanyahu during his victory speech, chanting in a loud roar, \u201cOh! Ah! What happened now? Noni Mozes had a cow!\u201d Not Herzog. Not Lapid. Noni.<\/p>\n<p>For several weeks now, more and more information about police probes against Netanyahu has been\u00a0revealed.\u00a0This past week, it became clear that the mysterious businessman with whom Netanyahu engaged in long, corrupt wheeling and dealing was none other than\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ynetnews.com\/articles\/0,7340,L-4905398,00.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-vivaldi-spatnav-clickable=\"1\">Noni Mozes<\/a>. The \u201cdeal\u201d they reached could be seen as little more than a bribe. Israel was in shock. In terms of dramatic political developments, it may even have been unprecedented. It suddenly became clear to everyone that somewhere behind the scenes of this formidable political and economic rivalry, Netanyahu was engaged in intense negotiations with Mozes over a package deal.\u00a0Mozes would tone down\u00a0the Yedioth Media Group\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-israel-netanyahu-idUSKBN14S0EX\" target=\"_blank\" data-vivaldi-spatnav-clickable=\"1\">hostile coverage of Netanyahu<\/a> significantly, and in exchange, Netanyahu would take steps to advance a law to prohibit the distribution of Israel Today at no cost. Israel Today is the free newspaper funded by Netanyahu\u2019s patron, billionaire Sheldon Adelson.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Enough to make one shake their head, just to feel the balls bounce around in there.
