{"id":754,"date":"2015-04-20T10:38:46","date_gmt":"2015-04-20T15:38:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=754"},"modified":"2015-04-20T10:38:46","modified_gmt":"2015-04-20T15:38:46","slug":"doggerel-for-spring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2015\/04\/20\/doggerel-for-spring\/","title":{"rendered":"Doggerel for Spring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Dawn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two squirrels play a game of catch me in the branches of the maple tree.<br \/>\nExulting in the suppleness of their bodies,<br \/>\nthey leap from branch to branch,<br \/>\ncatching the tips of twigs too slender to support squirrel weight.<br \/>\nSlim branches sag under sudden load,<br \/>\nthen spring back as squirrel hands release<br \/>\nto catch another twig just as reedy as the first.<\/p>\n<p>The sky brightens, shading from indigo to grey,<br \/>\nthrough mauve to petal pink, then effervescent golden-bright.<br \/>\nThe leaves on the trees glow<br \/>\nemerald and chartreuse, viridian and honey gold,<br \/>\npunctuated by the black and grey of fluid trunk and crisscrossing branch.<br \/>\nBirdsong fills the air, as if they who sing<br \/>\ncan hardly contain the aria that spills from them.<\/p>\n<p>And through the cacophony of rustling leaf and dancing squirrel feet,<br \/>\navians\u2019 exultant call and response, the inhalation of  the waking day,<br \/>\nstill, there is a quiet in the air, a wholesome silence, a completeness.<br \/>\nAs if, in this moment, as all is calm and still and bright,<br \/>\nwe are all remade, perfect and unbroken, pure and replete.<br \/>\nAnd for one precious instant, we are whole.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; D.J.
