{"id":7138,"date":"2016-12-12T16:04:37","date_gmt":"2016-12-12T22:04:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=7138"},"modified":"2016-12-12T16:04:37","modified_gmt":"2016-12-12T22:04:37","slug":"the-end-of-public-education-ctd-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2016\/12\/12\/the-end-of-public-education-ctd-3\/","title":{"rendered":"The End of Public Education?, Ctd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An educator in North Carolina writes in response to <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2016\/12\/10\/the-end-of-public-education-ctd-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>ITT Tech<\/strong><\/em><\/a> going away, concerning their duties:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>We are being encouraged to consider our &#8216;customer service.&#8217; A lot of this seems to apply to higher education, but who knows what the next four years will bring.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, the subservient position vis a vis the &#8220;customer&#8221; is hardly a good educational pose, and given that educators are usually also &#8220;inferior&#8221; to the school&#8217;s administration (soon to be called the <em>business leaders<\/em>, if all goes ill). Not that students shouldn&#8217;t have rights, such as a right not to be abused &#8211; but an educational position bears little resemblance to a &#8220;customer representative&#8221;, and attempting to make educators into such will simply degrade the educational experience &#8211; and the Republic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An educator in North Carolina writes in response to ITT Tech going away, concerning their duties: We are being encouraged to consider our &#8216;customer service.&#8217; A lot of this seems to apply to higher education, but who knows what the next four years will bring.
