A team of physicists and chemists from the University of Bristol have grown a man-made diamond that, when placed in a radioactive field, is able to generate a small electrical current.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"adn ads\">\n<div class=\"gs\">\n<div id=\":c3\" class=\"ii gt adP adO\">\n<div id=\":c4\" class=\"a3s aXjCH m158ac56983686bfb\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote><p>The development could solve some of the problems of nuclear waste, clean electricity generation and battery life.<\/p>\n<p>This innovative method for radioactive energy was presented at the Cabot Institute\u2019s sold-out annual lecture &#8211; \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bristol.ac.uk\/cabot\/events\/2016\/annual-lecture-2016.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.bristol.ac.uk\/cabot\/events\/2016\/annual-lecture-2016.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1480460454328000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFcVp9OP1jYls3yyQd9scOaI0FzaQ\">Ideas to change the world<\/a>\u2019- on Friday, 25 November.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the majority of electricity-generation technologies, which use energy to move a magnet through a coil of wire to generate a current, the man-made diamond is able to produce a charge simply by being placed in close proximity to a radioactive source.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Uses?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe envision these batteries to be used in situations where it is not feasible to charge or replace conventional batteries.
