The most disconcerting Standing Rock event was a\u00a0prayer ceremony held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at\u00a0Cantapeta Creek, north of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. \u201cA\u00a0confrontation erupted<\/a> after law enforcement dismantled a wooden bridge<\/a> that demonstrators constructed to access\u00a0a sacred site.\u201d\u00a0They were met by militarized police, high-pressured\u00a0OC spray\u00a0and rubber bullets fired at close range<\/a> on the completely peaceful demonstration. The Morton County Sheriff claims the\u00a0Army Corps of Engineers ordered them to remove the bridge and arrest any individuals\u00a0who crossed the river\u00a0for criminal trespass. Morton County doesn\u2019t have jurisdiction on federal land. It is unclear\u00a0exactly who is leading the military operation here. What is clear and has been documented is that\u00a0the Morton County police felt it was\u00a0okay to massively pepper spray the crowd and randomly shoot rubber bullets into the crowd.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
