Tom Beddow of Ada, coordinator of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma&#8217;s Oil Patch Chaplains ministry, said he would like to see similar gatherings around the state as people pray for individuals affected by current economic woes, with the energy industry at the center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe oil field is hurting right now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe&#8217;re asking churches all over Oklahoma to open their doors, put on a pot of coffee and pray for the oil field, and not only for the oil field but the state, because the economy of our state is so connected to the oil field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Hubbard, with Oilfield Christian Fellowship- Oklahoma City, agreed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe have a saying: The oil field trickles down to everyone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Hubbard said Gov. Mary Fallin has proclaimed Oct. 13 as Oilfield Prayer Day to raise awareness about the initiative.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\">I can&#8217;t help but think that perhaps they should be working on diversifying their economic base, not praying that, somehow, their major industry will magically get better. The time to work on that is now. Scout Finch with <em><strong>The Daily Kos<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/stories\/2016\/10\/5\/1578126\/-Oklahoma-governor-declares-Oct-13-a-day-of-prayer-for-the-oil-industry-no-this-is-not-a-joke\" target=\"_blank\">points out<\/a> that some have done very well with the industry &#8211; perhaps too well:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\">The \u201coil field trickles down to everyone.\u201d Well, Oklahoma\u2019s wealthiest person\u00a0is Harold Hamm, an oil billionaire with a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tulsaworld.com\/businesshomepage1\/forbes-richest-list-see-the-oklahomans-who-made-it\/article_4d62e837-a70a-57bc-8321-74045dbf3594.html\" target=\"_blank\">nearly $15 billion fortune<\/a>, most of it from shale oil\u00a0fracking. Yes, the same oil extraction method responsible for\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/2016\/05\/18\/oil-gas-texas-earthquakes\/\" target=\"_blank\">at least 90% of the earthquakes in Oklahoma.<\/a>\u00a0Maybe Oklahoma could raise his taxes and encourage him to trickle a little bit more down to the oil field workers? Or how about George Kaiser?\u00a0<em>Forbes Magazine<\/em>\u00a0pegs his net worth at nearly\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tulsaworld.com\/businesshomepage1\/forbes-richest-list-see-the-oklahomans-who-made-it\/article_4d62e837-a70a-57bc-8321-74045dbf3594.html\" target=\"_blank\">$10 billion.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NewsOK reports that Oklahoma Governor Fallin&#8217;s response to depression in the Oklahoma oil industry is &#8230; to pray it gets better.
