This infrared image gives an unprecedented view of the southern aurora of Jupiter, as captured by NASA’s Juno spacecraft on August 27, 2016.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Several years ago I was experimenting with the new computer language Mythryl<\/a>, and I conceived of a project to convert the raw data files from the Viking<\/strong><\/em><\/a> probes into finished picture formats. Unfortunately, my calculus was not up to my ambitions, and after writing a lot of code, and learning a lot about functional programming<\/a>, I reluctantly shelved the project. It does make me wonder about the calculations necessary to convert Juno<\/strong><\/em> raw data into visible pictures, though.<\/p>\n
