Ann Selzer, head of a now-defunct pollster, and the Des Moines Register, by President Trump after the 2024 election. It was <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2025\/11\/18\/and-the-first-amendment-wins-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dismissed<\/a>, but apparently reopened or refiled. <em><strong>WaPo<\/strong><\/em> now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/09\/24\/court-dismisses-trump-lawsuit-against-iowa-pollster-des-moines-register\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>An Iowa district court has dismissed a lawsuit by President Donald Trump against pollster J. Ann Selzer and the Des Moines Register, saying the Iowa poll and the newspaper\u2019s reporting were fully protected political speech. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In a <a title=\"https:\/\/www.fire.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2026\/09\/Trump%20v.%20Selzer%20-%20Ruling%20on%20Motions%20to%20Dismiss.PDF\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fire.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2026\/09\/Trump%20v.%20Selzer%20-%20Ruling%20on%20Motions%20to%20Dismiss.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">decision<\/a> Wednesday, Judge Scott J. Beattie wrote that election polling is protected by the First Amendment \u201cbecause it involves a conversation between a pollster and a voter and because the poll itself is speech.\u201d Beattie dismissed the case with prejudice, which means Trump cannot bring the same claim to court again.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I think that&#8217;ll be the end of that.
