{"id":43968,"date":"2026-02-20T11:45:39","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T17:45:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=43968"},"modified":"2026-02-20T11:45:39","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T17:45:39","slug":"pushback-pushed-back-ctd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/20\/pushback-pushed-back-ctd\/","title":{"rendered":"Pushback, Pushed Back, Ctd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>WaPo<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2026\/02\/20\/live-updates-supreme-court-tariffs-ruling-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">answers<\/a> one or two of <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/20\/pushback-pushed-back\/\">my questions<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Refunds:<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>As part of its ruling striking down most of President Donald Trump\u2019s tariffs, the Supreme Court\u2019s majority did not make clear whether the Trump administration will have to refund billions in tariffs already collected by the federal government.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And then<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Within minutes of the Supreme Court\u2019s decision Friday, a group of small businesses made a public appeal for the federal government to swiftly refund the money they had paid in connection with the president\u2019s illegal tariffs.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Followed by<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Some Democrats have started calling for the Trump administration to issue refunds now that the Supreme Court has struck down most of the president\u2019s sweeping tariffs, although the court\u2019s ruling Friday did not address whether that would happen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>It was a 6-3 decision. Too bad it wasn&#8217;t 9-0. The dissenters were the two most conservative Justices, Alito and Thomas, plus Kavanaugh.<\/li>\n<li>How is Trump going to feel about this? Here&#8217;s what he&#8217;s been saying for a year:<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEverybody should pray that the United States Supreme Court has the Wisdom and Genius to allow Tariffs to GUARD our National Security, and our Financial Freedom!\u201d Trump\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/115731785428395132\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0in Truth Social in December.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His acting skills may allow him to look even-tempered, but when the camera&#8217;s are not on him?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Trump called it a \u201cdisgrace,\u201d the governor [unnamed] said, and left shortly after, telling the governors he needed to work on a statement on the ruling.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PXL_20221215_160534714.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-43970 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PXL_20221215_160534714.jpg?resize=225%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PXL_20221215_160534714.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PXL_20221215_160534714.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PXL_20221215_160534714.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PXL_20221215_160534714.jpg?resize=1152%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1152w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/PXL_20221215_160534714.jpg?resize=113%2C150&amp;ssl=1 113w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>This will take some pressure off of the economy, although I expect not all of it. Trump will test his supporters, looking for a measure of how much support he retains after being defeated at the Supreme Court, but in such a way that his supporters will be less stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Refunds? I doubt it; <strong>SCOTUS<\/strong> dodged a bullet when it didn&#8217;t specify refunds, since Trump won&#8217;t have to defy <strong>SCOTUS<\/strong> on that count. Still, he may defy the ruling denying him authority, as that&#8217;s a central blow to his claims. It&#8217;s an affirmation to the limits of Executive power, and one that <strong>SCOTUS<\/strong> should have affirmed long ago when Trump begged for immunity.
