{"id":43935,"date":"2026-02-20T07:39:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T13:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=43935"},"modified":"2026-02-20T07:39:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T13:39:09","slug":"the-2026-senate-campaign-updates-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/20\/the-2026-senate-campaign-updates-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2026 Senate Campaign: Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Oooops!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I missed a few slightly stale polls, so I include them here to get the ball rolling on the quantum uncertainty of polling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And Onwards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since the <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/18\/the-2026-senate-campaign-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last update<\/a> we have the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I noticed Senator Ossoff (D) of <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/16\/the-2026-senate-campaign-the-burned\/#Georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia<\/a> was on the Wednesday night edition of <em><strong>The Late Show<\/strong><\/em> <strong><em>with Stephen Colbert<\/em><\/strong>. Will Colbert be required to interview the Senator&#8217;s challengers as well, numbering <strong>fourteen<\/strong> at the moment? Or will the <em><strong>FCC<\/strong><\/em>, meaning Trump&#8217;s Toady <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brendan_Carr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brendan Carr<\/a>, and &#8220;CBS lawyers,&#8221; of whom the latter I must doubt their qualifications, decide to ignore the entire matter? At least they have the sense to not have another go at Colbert, who ate them alive in the <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/18\/the-2026-senate-campaign-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Talarico incident<\/a>. But before you begin shouting <em>hypocrite<\/em> at the <em><strong>FCC<\/strong><\/em>, et al, keep in mind that some folks have come to the conclusion that Trump and his minions believe being a hypocrite is of survival value, and not survival-negative, like the rest of us do.<\/li>\n<li>The &#8220;I have no idea if this is true&#8221; file: Dean Blundell <a href=\"https:\/\/deanblundell.substack.com\/p\/video-drunk-lyndsey-grahams-munich?r=4bv4c&amp;utm_medium=ios&amp;triedRedirect=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wants me to believe<\/a> Senator Graham of <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/16\/the-2026-senate-campaign-the-burned\/#SouthCarolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Carolina<\/a> is way too friendly with the bottle. Yes, <strong>that<\/strong> bottle. I don&#8217;t believe it until I see a second or even third confirmation; this could all be a scurrilous rumor. And does it matter to voters in South Carolina?<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>University of New Hampshire<\/strong> (<strong>UNH<\/strong>) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/2026\/02\/13\/llamas-fight-crime-theft-england\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll<\/a> shows <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/16\/the-2026-senate-campaign-the-burned\/#NewHampshire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Hampshire<\/a>\u00a0Senate candidates Sununu and Pappas leading their respective primary opponents, Sununu 48% &#8211; Brown 25%, and Democrat Rep Pappas 65% &#8211; Manzur 11%. It also shows Rep Pappas with a 50% &#8211; 45% lead over Sununu. It&#8217;s a long time to Election Day, even to Primary Day, which is September 8, and this poll is from a month ago. <em><strong>UNH<\/strong><\/em> has a very good reputation as a pollster, as I recall.<\/li>\n<li>Unknown-to-me pollster <em><strong>Carolina Forward<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/carolinaforward.org\/blog\/the-january-carolina-forward-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">measured<\/a> Roy Cooper (D-NC) as having a five point lead over Michael Whatley (R-NC), 47% &#8211; 42%, in <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/16\/the-2026-senate-campaign-the-burned\/#NorthCarolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Carolina<\/a> back in January. Yes, Whatley has a large lead in the primary. Polling for the Democratic primary doesn&#8217;t seem to be present. But is this a credible pollster?<\/li>\n<li>Last December highly respected <em><strong>Emerson College Polling<\/strong><\/em> released a <a href=\"https:\/\/emersoncollegepolling.com\/ohio-2026-poll-democrats-make-gains-in-races-for-governor-and-us-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">poll<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/16\/the-2026-senate-campaign-the-burned\/#Ohio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ohio<\/a> voters that showed Senator Husted (R) leading former Senator Brown (D), 49% &#8211; 46%.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stuart_Rothenberg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stuart Rothenberg<\/a>, contributor to biweekly newsletter <a href=\"https:\/\/insideelections.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Inside Elections<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/StuPolitics\/status\/2022461624054091905\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">believes<\/a> Senator Collins (R) of <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2026\/02\/16\/the-2026-senate-campaign-the-burned\/#Maine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maine<\/a> will not win reelection. I wish he&#8217;d said why. Didn&#8217;t see anything on the website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oooops!
