When asked by a reporter, \u201cDoes the administration deny that that second strike happened, or did it happen and the administration denies that Secretary Hegseth gave the order?\u201d she said: \u201cThe latter is true.\u201d She attributed the orders of September 2 to Admiral Bradley, appearing to be setting him up for underbussing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The usage appears to be subtly incompatible with the definition, but then is <em><strong>Urban Dictionary<\/strong><\/em> definitive? <em><strong>Merriam-Webster<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/wordplay\/why-do-we-throw-someone-under-the-bus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<div class=\"tldr position-relative\">\n<blockquote class=\"bq-art m-0\">\n<p class=\"bq-body m-0\">To\u00a0<em>throw someone under the bus<\/em> is to criticize, blame, or punish them, especially in order to avoid blame or gain an advantage. People so thrown are typically in a vulnerable position.
