A cryostat is an instrument used to sustain very low temperatures at -238 degrees Fahrenheit (-150 Celsius) or below, for many medical,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allthescience.org\/what-is-engineering.htm\">engineering<\/a>, and scientific uses. The chemicals to maintain these temperatures are baths of liquid\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allthescience.org\/what-is-helium.htm\">helium<\/a>\u00a0for tissue specimens or liquid\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allthescience.org\/what-is-nitrogen.htm\">nitrogen<\/a>\u00a0for cryonics patients.
