If you&#8217;re puzzled, here&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reverse_discrimination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Wikipedia<\/strong><\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Reverse discrimination<\/b>\u00a0is a term used to describe\u00a0<a title=\"Discrimination\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Discrimination\">discrimination<\/a>\u00a0against members of a dominant or majority group, in favor of members of a minority or historically disadvantaged group. Reverse discrimination based on race or ethnicity is also called\u00a0<a title=\"Reverse racism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reverse_racism\">reverse racism<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>OK, so what happened a while back at the <em>6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals<\/em>?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230; decision that placed a heightened burden upon a plaintiff who is a member of a &#8220;<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/24pdf\/23-1039_c0n2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\">majority group<\/a>&#8221; in discrimination cases, requiring that the plaintiff shows \u201cbackground circumstances to support the suspicion that the defendant is that unusual employer who discriminates against the majority.\u201d<em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/columnist\/2025\/06\/06\/supreme-court-reverse-discrimination-lawsuit\/84051923007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>USA Today<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, that court claimed it was harder to prove reverse discrimination than discrimination. So what did <strong>SCOTUS<\/strong> say about this?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">There is no such thing as\u00a0<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/06\/05\/supreme-court-reverse-discrimination-marlean-ames-straight-lgbtq\/82268898007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\">reverse discrimination<\/a>. There is just discrimination. It doesn&#8217;t matter if someone is White or Black, straight or gay, male or female. It only matters if they&#8217;ve been discriminated against.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">On June 5, the\u00a0<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/politics\/supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-autotag=\"a173914f-749b-454a-81ed-e37783d9c6f6\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\">Supreme Court<\/a>\u00a0handed down a <strong>unanimous<\/strong> decision removing barriers for members of majority groups to file anti-discrimination suits.\u00a0In\u00a0<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/24pdf\/23-1039_c0n2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\">this case<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/06\/05\/politics\/supreme-court-reverse-discrimination-suits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\">Marlean Ames<\/a>, a straight woman, filed a suit against her employer, which she said denied a promotion in favor of a gay woman, and later demoted her in favor of a gay man filling her role.<em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/columnist\/2025\/06\/06\/supreme-court-reverse-discrimination-lawsuit\/84051923007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>USA Today<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Bold mine, because it matters. <em>Compensatory discrimination<\/em> &#8211; my phrase &#8211; for past discrimination against members of targeted groups doesn&#8217;t make for justice, and both wings of the Court agree on this conclusion, or at least that&#8217;s how this software engineer sees it.<\/p>\n<p>The left may flutter about it, but the left wing of the Court, to reiterate, made it a <em>unanimous<\/em> decision &#8211; and implicitly rejects identitarian politics. As identitarian politics is one of the factors damaging lefty, and Democratic, politics, this is actually a good thing.
