Following a couple of links last night I ran across this, from<\/a> United24 Media<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n

Ukrainian forces have found an\u00a0effective counter to\u00a0Russia\u2019s long-range glide bombs, particularly the notorious UMPK\u00a0\u00a0kits used to\u00a0convert conventional bombs into guided munitions,\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0Commander-in-Chief of\u00a0the Armed Forces of\u00a0Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi in\u00a0an\u00a0interview with Ukrainian media outlet Lb.ua on\u00a0April\u00a09.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u00a0have a\u00a0sufficient number of\u00a0electronic warfare systems that disrupt the guidance of\u00a0enemy glide bombs,\u201d said Syrskyi.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u00a0was flying in\u00a0one direction, and then for some reason veered off in\u00a0another. The battle between guidance systems and electronic warfare is\u00a0constant\u2014just like the contest between drones and EW.\u201d<\/p>\n

Syrskyi confirmed for the first time that electronic warfare (EW) systems are now Ukraine\u2019s primary defense against Russian glide bombs, including KABs equipped with UMPK kits. These bombs rely heavily on\u00a0satellite navigation, which can be\u00a0jammed or\u00a0spoofed to\u00a0mislead them off course.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What does this mean?<\/p>\n

In standard evolutionary biology, the individuals of a species face challenges as each, in their own way, tries to perpetuate the species. When most of the members of a species are facing the same, new challenge, this is an evolutionary pressure on the species, and it can be existential.<\/p>\n

That is, find a way to survive it, or the species goes extinct. Evolve a defense against that new predatory species, or learn to metabolize oxygen, for example.<\/p>\n

The thing is, the surviving species often move from weak sister to big brother. If & when Ukraine survives Putin’s War<\/strong>, what will most likely emerge is a stronger, tougher nation, a nation that knows how to make war – and, with thanks to Professor Turchin, why to avoid<\/em> going to war.<\/p>\n

They survived the first week of Putin’s War<\/strong>, when Putin expected them to collapse in a few days. That was 24 February 2022. More than three years later, they continue to survive. They’ve learned how to deal with allies, with Russian meat attacks<\/em>, Russian tanks, use and defend against drone warfare, and now glide bombs.<\/p>\n

They’ll have some skills that no one else has, if they survive. That’s something to remember.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
