The deployment of necropolitics creates what\u00a0<a title=\"Achille Mbembe\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Achille_Mbembe\">Achille Mbembe<\/a>\u00a0calls\u00a0<i>deathworlds<\/i>, or &#8220;new and unique forms of social existence in which vast populations are subjected to living conditions that confer upon them the status of the living dead.&#8221;\u00a0Mbembe, author of\u00a0<i><a title=\"On the Postcolony\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/On_the_Postcolony\">On the Postcolony<\/a><\/i>, was the first scholar to explore the term in depth in his 2003 article,\u00a0and later, his 2019 book of the same name.\u00a0Mbembe identifies\u00a0<a title=\"Racism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Racism\">racism<\/a>\u00a0as a prime driver of necropolitics, stating that\u00a0<a title=\"Racialization\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Racialization\">racialized<\/a>\u00a0people&#8217;s lives are\u00a0<a title=\"Systemic bias\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Systemic_bias\">systemically<\/a>\u00a0cheapened and habituated to loss.<em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Necropolitics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Wikipedia<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Noted in &#8220;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2024\/11\/04\/kamala-harris-gaza-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Why I\u2019m choosing to fight Harris<\/a><\/em>,&#8221; Karen Attiah, <em><strong>WaPo<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Yet I could not stop thinking of an idea expressed by the Cameroonian historian and theorist Achille Mbembe. \u201cNecropolitics,\u201d he observed, is the terrible reckoning that \u201cthe calculus of life passes through the death of the Other.\u201d I had hoped the administration would enact arms restrictions to force right-wing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop the needless death of the Palestinian \u201cOther.\u201d I had hoped it would not toss aside the concerns of Arab, Muslim, Palestinian and Lebanese communities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A way of looking at society from a post-colonial perspective?
