As Donald Trump<\/a> announces his running mate, former Representative Mike Pence<\/a>, Steve Benen @ Maddowblog<\/strong><\/em> points out<\/a> a salient feature of now Indiana Governor Pence:<\/p>\n

In the 107th Congress<\/a> (Pence\u2019s first, covering 2001 and 2002), for example, out of 435 members of the U.S. House, Pence ranked #428 \u2013 meaning that 427 members were to his left, putting the Hoosier on the far-right-wing fringe. The results were roughly the same in the 108th Congress<\/a> and the 109th<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By the 110th Congress<\/a>, Pence was at #432, putting him to the right of nearly everyone<\/em> in the chamber. The results were roughly the same in the 111th Congress<\/a> and the 112th<\/a>. …<\/p>\n

Indeed, the Indiana Republican developed a reputation on Capitol Hill as an ineffective extremist who, despite 12 years in Congress, was literally never the chief sponsor of a bill that passed into law.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You have to wonder how well an extremist such as Pence will work with Donald, who though difficult to classify, occasionally appears to hold liberal viewpoints.<\/p>\n

Pence was also deeply involved in this mess<\/a>, including one of my favorite newspaper headlines of all time:<\/p>\n
