Potassium permanganate<\/em>:<\/p>\n

Potassium permanganate<\/b>\u00a0is an\u00a0inorganic compound<\/a>\u00a0with the\u00a0chemical formula<\/a>\u00a0KMnO4<\/sub>. It is a purplish-black crystalline salt, that dissolves in water as\u00a0K+<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0MnO\u2212<\/sup>4<\/sub><\/span><\/span><\/a>, an intensely pink to purple solution.<\/p>\n

Potassium permanganate is widely used in the\u00a0chemical industry<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0laboratories<\/a>\u00a0as a strong\u00a0oxidizing agent<\/a>, and also\u00a0as a medication<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0dermatitis<\/a>, for cleaning\u00a0wounds<\/a>, and general\u00a0disinfection<\/a>. Robinson is one of many Shelby residents encountering the issue that city officials said began overnight Sept. 8 when two of the town\u2019s four\u00a0wells did not properly reset<\/a>.<\/p>\n
