While reading Professor Richardson’s\u00a0latest missive<\/a>, I ran across this passage:<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to look away from the reality that the Republican senators could have stopped this catastrophe at many points in Trump\u2019s term, at the very least by voting to convict Trump at his first impeachment trial. At the time, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) said, \u201cOut of one hundred senators, you have zero who believe you that there was no quid pro quo. None. There\u2019s not a single one.\u201d Republican senators nonetheless stood behind Trump. \u201cThis is not about this president. It\u2019s not about anything he\u2019s been accused of doing,\u201d then\u2013majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told his colleagues. \u201cIt has always been about November 3, 2020. It\u2019s about flipping the Senate.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\"<\/a>And now I want to be a cartoonist. My cartoon would show Mr Trump ascending a ladder, no doubt a rear view, and each rung, in classic editorial cartoon fashion, would be composed of a Senator, with name attached, who voted against a verdict of guilty.<\/p>\n

The question would be the goal for which Trump ascends. Maybe just a label: The Fascist States of America. And McConnell could be seen muttering, The Senate is more important than the Country!<\/i>\u00a0as Trump steps on his head.<\/p>\n
