Along with being just about the only American commercial airliner supplier, Boeing is also big in Defense and <em><strong>NASA<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I blame this on a failure to enforce anti-monopoly laws. Such laws are all about guaranteeing<sup><a href=\"#1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> competition in the marketplace, and, in limited circumstance, commodification of products that allows interoperation.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, investor demands also contribute to the failures, I suspect. The continual demand for greater and greater dividends places c-suite executives in more and more difficult positions. Although it&#8217;s hard to envision a capitalist-type economy that functions well without investors, there&#8217;s definitely an urge to toss them out on their ears.<\/p>\n<p>And this piques the interest:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wpds-c-PJLV article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\" dir=\"null\" data-testid=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-apitype=\"text\" data-contentid=\"H2UFD7A24VDG5NHFM2I7KGAX64\" data-el=\"text\">Paul Cassell, attorney for the families in the case and a professor at S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, immediately filed an objection to the agreement on their behalf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough crafty lawyering between Boeing and DOJ, the deadly consequences of Boeing\u2019s crime are being hidden,\u201d Cassell said.<\/p>\n<p>Added Erin Applebaum, a partner at Kreindler &amp; Kreindler who has worked with Cassell in representing family members: \u201cWe are extremely disappointed that DOJ is moving forward with this wholly inadequate plea deal despite the families\u2019 strong opposition to its terms.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Just trying to minimize damage to a favored contractor, or what?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a name=\"1\"><\/a><sup>1<\/sup> <em>Guarantee<\/em> is such a binary word, unsupportive of gradations. Its popularity makes it emblematic of a culture that, in large part, desires absolute, easy judgments. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azquotes.com\/author\/9962-H_L_Mencken\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Members of that culture should go read H. L.
