Stenography<\/em>:<\/p>\n

Stenography,\u00a0<\/strong>from the Greek words\u00a0stenos<\/em>\u00a0(narrow) and\u00a0graphein<\/em>\u00a0(to write), also known as\u00a0shorthand,<\/strong>\u00a0is an abbreviated or symbolic writing method that increases speed and brevity of writing as compared to longhand. \u00a0Historically, stenography was written by hand on paper.\u00a0 The first stenography machines and keyboards were invented starting in the late 19th century.\u00a0 Stenography using a machine or keyboard is also called machine shorthand or less commonly, stenotyping, or simply\u00a0steno.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>(See\u00a0History of Stenography<\/a>\u00a0section for a great timeline that I went\u00a0way<\/em>\u00a0overboard on.)
