In other words,\u00a0<a class=\"textTag\" href=\"https:\/\/phys.org\/tags\/evolution\/\" rel=\"tag\">evolution<\/a>\u00a0is not limited to life on Earth, it also occurs in other massively complex systems, from planets and stars to atoms, minerals, and more.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So it&#8217;s a proposal that we recognize systems satisfying certain requirements will move forwards as a result of &#8216;selection for function&#8217;, of which there are three types: stability, energy, and novelty.<\/p>\n<p>Fascinating stuff.
