Steve Benen is puzzling<\/a> over the Republican National Committee’s<\/strong> behavior, now under the management of Mr Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump:<\/p>\n

Stepping back, there\u2019s no shortage of Republican insiders who\u00a0desperately<\/em>\u00a0want Donald Trump and his team to move past their focus on 2020, if for no other reason than to appeal to mainstream voters who have no use for such a message.<\/p>\n

But for reasons the former president and his political operation haven\u2019t yet explained in a coherent way, they just can\u2019t seem to help themselves.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Given Mr Trump’s prosperity theology<\/a> and its Name it and claim it<\/em> facet, this is simply Mr Trump bellowing what he desires, a proven case of election theft, and in so doing prove that God is on his side. In a way, Mr Trump is trying to direct the will of God himself.<\/p>\n

I wish I could say that won’t go over well with his evangelical supporters, but neither his poll numbers nor human history supports such a position. Religion may claim to be about supplicating God, but supplicating<\/em> is just a tool, if you will. The goal is to get God to answer the commands of the faithful. If you’re being honest, that’s the best interpretation. So Mr Trump is simply doing what his supporters do, or have done, or wish they dared to do, all depending on their temperament.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
