Parker Spiral<\/em>:<\/p>\n

The\u00a0heliospheric current sheet<\/b>, or\u00a0interplanetary current sheet<\/b>, is a surface separating regions of the\u00a0heliosphere<\/a>\u00a0where the\u00a0interplanetary magnetic field<\/a>\u00a0points toward and away from the\u00a0Sun<\/a>.\u00a0A small\u00a0electrical current<\/a>\u00a0with a\u00a0current density<\/a>\u00a0of about 10\u221210<\/sup>\u00a0A<\/a>\/m2<\/sup>\u00a0flows within this surface, forming a\u00a0current sheet<\/a>\u00a0confined to this surface.\u00a0The shape of the current sheet results from the influence of the Sun’s\u00a0rotating magnetic field<\/a>\u00a0on the\u00a0plasma<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0interplanetary medium<\/a>.\u00a0The thickness of the current sheet is about 10,000\u00a0km (6,200\u00a0mi) near the orbit of the Earth.
