Parasitosis<\/em>:<\/p>\n

A\u00a0parasitic disease<\/b>, also known as\u00a0parasitosis<\/b>, is an\u00a0infectious disease<\/a>\u00a0caused by\u00a0parasites<\/a>.\u00a0Parasites are organisms which derive sustenance from its\u00a0host<\/a>\u00a0while causing it harm.\u00a0The study of parasites and parasitic diseases is known as\u00a0parasitology<\/a>.\u00a0Medical parasitology is concerned with three major groups of parasites: parasitic\u00a0protozoa<\/a>,\u00a0helminths<\/a>, and parasitic\u00a0arthropods<\/a>.\u00a0Parasitic diseases are thus considered those diseases that are caused by\u00a0pathogens<\/a>\u00a0belonging\u00a0taxonomically<\/a>\u00a0to either the\u00a0animal<\/a>\u00a0kingdom<\/a>, or the\u00a0protozoan<\/a>\u00a0kingdom<\/a>. Morgellons was a self-diagnosis that a few worried people sought out when their regular doctors were unable to cure their symptoms. It involved small fibers that were thought to emerge from the skin as part of the \u201cdisease.\u201d In reality, the fibers people were finding were ordinary misidentified things such as hair, cotton, or paper fibers. But the visual confirmation of their suspicions seemed to be something people latched onto.<\/p>\n

The Morgellons community was very diverse. While most had genuine symptoms of unknown cause, their fixation on the \u201cfibers\u201d as being related made their condition indistinguishable from delusions of parasitosis.
