{"id":37883,"date":"2022-12-07T15:32:15","date_gmt":"2022-12-07T21:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=37883"},"modified":"2022-12-07T15:32:15","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T21:32:15","slug":"the-2022-senate-campaign-the-last-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2022\/12\/07\/the-2022-senate-campaign-the-last-update\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2022 Senate Campaign:  The Last Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Warnock&#8217;s (D) margin of victory in his reelection campaign in Georgia is coming in at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/election\/2022\/results\/georgia\/senate-runoff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nearly<\/a> three points, giving Democrats a majority in the Senate, which is worth noting they lacked <strong>before<\/strong> the red wave. While some liberal pundits are celebrating, I find it difficult to get around the fact that his challenger, former NFL star and Trump-endorsee Herschel Walker (R), nearly won.<\/p>\n<p>After decisively beating all of his primary rivals.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Walker demonstrated such skills as mendacity, fornication, and rhetorical gibberish during the campaign, and still won well more than 40% of Georgians&#8217; votes. It&#8217;s embarrassing. That many Georgians thought that Walker somehow was better equipped than Warnock for the Senate. I&#8217;m aghast.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrats now have an important question in front of them. Why was this race so close? Some possible answers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The American electorate distrusts Democrats.<\/li>\n<li>The Georgian electorate distrusts Democrats.<\/li>\n<li>The Georgian electorate thinks a Senate seat is a prize for the mantle and not a serious position of responsibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p>The Democrats need to sit down and figure out why what should have been a walk in the park was, instead, a victory to be sweated out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Warnock&#8217;s (D) margin of victory in his reelection campaign in Georgia is coming in at nearly three points, giving Democrats a majority in the Senate, which is worth noting they lacked before the red wave.
