{"id":3773,"date":"2016-06-06T21:29:43","date_gmt":"2016-06-07T02:29:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=3773"},"modified":"2016-06-06T21:29:43","modified_gmt":"2016-06-07T02:29:43","slug":"race-2016-donald-trump-ctd-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2016\/06\/06\/race-2016-donald-trump-ctd-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Race 2016: Donald Trump, Ctd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few days ago Steve Benen noted on <em><strong>Maddowblog<\/strong><\/em> that Trump has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/rachel-maddow-show\/north-korean-leader-has-favorite-us-presidential-race\" target=\"_blank\">international boosters<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Russian President Vladimir Putin, for example, doesn\u2019t care for President Obama, though the Russian autocrat seems to have more of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/rachel-maddow-show\/donald-trump-gives-voice-the-gops-vladimir-putin-wing\">a bond with Donald Trump<\/a>. And North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un not surprisingly has no use for President Obama, though he too seems rather fond of the Republican Party\u2019s would-be successor.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, the GOP candidate raised a few eyebrows when asked whether he\u2019s open to talking to the North Korean dictator. \u201cI would speak to him, I would have no problem speaking to him,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/msnbc\/trump-would-talk-north-koreas-kim-jong-un-over-nukes\">Trump told Reuters<\/a>. This led to yesterday\u2019s developments, in which the North Korean government made clear how much <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-northkorea-usa-trump-idUSKCN0YN35S\" rel=\"nofollow\">it likes<\/a> the presumptive Republican nominee.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gordon Chang at <em><strong>The Daily Beast<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0also contributes a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2016\/06\/01\/make-america-meek-again-why-dictators-dig-trump.html\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> including China&#8217;s\u00a0Xi Jinping\u00a0endorsement of Trump.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been musing on the motivations of these\u00a0\u00a0leaders. Surely they realize that any influence they may wield in an American election would be diffuse and complex, i.e., hard to predict. Would the electorate move in a contrarian way? Ignore them? Surely not gravely consider their advice &amp; endorsements.<\/p>\n<p>But perhaps they just can&#8217;t restrain themselves. <em><strong>NK News<\/strong><\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nknews.org\/2016\/05\/north-korean-editorial-supports-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\">notes<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Referring to the Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nknews.org\/2016\/03\/s-korean-media-experts-refute-trumps-u-s-withdrawal-remarks\/\">speech<\/a>\u00a0in March to potentially withdraw the U.S. military forces from Seoul if it does not pay more for its defense costs, the North Korean editorial welcomed the\u00a0policy with open arms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes do it, now \u2026 Who knew that the slogan \u2018Yankee Go Home\u2019 would come true like this? The day when the \u2018Yankee Go Home\u2019 slogan becomes real would be the day of Korean Unification.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The same story contains an interview with\u00a0an unnamed researcher:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A researcher said the odd editorial indicates Pyongyang\u2019s wish to break through Washington\u2019s strategic patience policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s the Dennis Rodman of American politics \u2014 quirky, flamboyant, risk-taking. At the moment he\u2019s also an outsider,\u201d\u00a0John Feffer, director of Foreign Policy In Focus told <em>NK News.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut Pyongyang is hoping that either he\u2019ll be elected (and follows through on his pledges) or that his pronouncements will change the political game in the United States and influence how the Democratic party and mainstream Republicans view Korean issues.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At <em><strong>The National<\/strong><\/em> they <a href=\"http:\/\/nationalreport.net\/kim-jong-un-endorses-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\">talk<\/a> to an analyst:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Jeung Sang Wook of Korean Business News Daily has been following this developing story and adds that, \u201cKim Jong-Un is not in favor of Donald Trump\u2019s policies on guns as, obviously, he\u2019d like to see an America that is weaker militarily. However, he does apparently feel that of all of the potential United States candidates, Trump has the closest mindset to himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jeung Sang Wook continues, \u201cSurprisingly, Kim Jong-Un was nearly ready to endorse Jim Webb as the official DPRK backed candidate, but he felt that Jim Webb\u2019s showing at the recent Democrat political debate was lacking. His (Kim Jong-Un\u2019s) overall support of Trump\u2019s immigration policy, combined with Webb\u2019s inability to conduct himself on the world stage helped solidify the decision.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Perhaps the most cataclysmic is the aforementioned Gordon Chang report:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.0.$0.4.3.$18\">\n<blockquote><p>History is often marked by stretches of decades, and sometimes centuries, of relative calm, interrupted by truly horrendous events. President Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe remembered the end of the world\u2019s last great tragedy with their solemn remarks in Hiroshima on Friday. That global conflict began with grabs of territory by aggressors who believed the Western democracies would not stand firm.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.0.$0.4.3.$19\">\n<blockquote><p>Trump, with his desire to end treaty alliances and withdraw from Asia, can start a chain of events leading to the next horrific period as new sets of ambitious leaders see opportunities to take reefs, shoals, islands, and land of their neighbors, unopposed by America.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Which does nothing to explicate the strategy of these endorsements. Simple honesty?
