In this particular case, the royal families &#8211; or family, if you prefer &#8211; of Europe decayed, as they kept the throne(s) in the family via sanctioned incest. To be succinct, the <em>royal diseases<\/em> sank their futures, and, in some cases, they even became disfigured monsters, convinced God favored them even as their offspring died early and tragically, and wars left them in ruins.<\/p>\n<p>I see the same thing happening with abortion. As the extremists have taken control of the Republican Party and have tried, with varying degrees of success, to decree that abortion will not be permitted, the Jell-O is squeezing away from them. Their long-observed and discussed <em>epistemic bubble<\/em> has interfered with their ability to integrate simple realities with their political philosophies, and is beginning to lead to reports such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/10\/06\/abortion-gop-women-ads-00060507\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this one<\/a> in <em><strong>Politico<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<section class=\"page-content__row page-content__row--story\">\n<div class=\"container container--story story-layout--fluid-fixed\">\n<div class=\"container__column container__column--story summary-middle\">\n<div class=\"container__row container__row--story story-layout--fixed-fluid\">\n<div class=\"container__column container__column--story center-horizontally\">\n<div class=\"story-text\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph   \">EASTPOINTE, Mich. \u2014 White women without college degrees turned away from Democrats in recent years. Abortion politics could reel some of them back in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph   \">That\u2019s what Veronica Klinefelt was looking for as she knocked on doors last week in Macomb County, Mich., where the county commissioner was searching for votes. She said that women here \u2014 a culturally conservative piece of metro Detroit she\u2019s represented for more than two decades \u2014 don\u2019t like to call themselves \u201cpro-choice\u201d because that label doesn\u2019t capture the deeply personal and complicated views on abortion, especially in a post-<i>Roe<\/i> world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph   \">But even if abortion is personally distasteful to them, they\u2019re also not comfortable outlawing it with \u201cno exceptions\u201d for rape or incest \u2014\u00a0<a class=\" js-tealium-tracking \" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/07\/21\/michigan-republican-tudor-dixon-abortion-ban-rape\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-tracking=\"mpos=&amp;mid=&amp;lindex=&amp;lcol=\" aria-label=\"a position held (opens in a new window)\">a position held<\/a> by Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon and the rest of the Michigan GOP statewide ticket.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text__paragraph   \">\u201cI think that silent group of people is going to have an effect on this election,\u201d said Klinefelt, who is running in one of Michigan\u2019s most hotly contested state legislative races.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The absurdly arrogant position that abortion is always bad is reflective of a mentality that doesn&#8217;t have to live in a world where biology is a messy business, and things go wrong for a species that is eternally midway between where it was and where it&#8217;s going.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/PXL_20220901_193123983.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-37538 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/PXL_20220901_193123983.jpg?resize=293%2C390&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/PXL_20220901_193123983.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/PXL_20220901_193123983.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/PXL_20220901_193123983.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/PXL_20220901_193123983.jpg?resize=1152%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1152w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/huewhite.com\/umb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/PXL_20220901_193123983.jpg?resize=113%2C150&amp;ssl=1 113w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px\" \/><\/a>For decades, Republicans &#8211; no typo, it&#8217;s <em>Republicans<\/em> &#8211; have hidden behind the shield that was <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>. They could shout their anti-abortion slogans, advance legislation that might eat up bits of the abortion clinics, but did not fatally damage them, and &#8211; quite literally &#8211; prance about displaying their performative virtues for their followers to glory in. And if they, or their spouse, ended up needing an abortion, it was available.<\/p>\n<p>But now, <em>Dobbs<\/em> has overturned <em>Roe<\/em>, and many Republican women must suddenly confront the shocking reality that there is no longer a shield when they must turn to abortion to save their lives, their families, their marriages, and their dignities, and their Party has been usurped by extremists who proclaim a fetus to be a human being.<\/p>\n<p>Remember my reference to Michael Steele&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2022\/10\/01\/the-2022-senate-campaign-updates-30\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Pink Wave<\/em><\/a>? This may be it, a group of Republican women who may tell everyone, from pastor to pollster, that they&#8217;ll be voting Republican, and then shuffling into polling booth, with a sigh, and selecting the pro-choice Democrat, instead.<\/p>\n<p>Life seems to always awry when purists are in charge, those who think they know best. America isn&#8217;t built that way, though, from Amendments to the Establishment Clause. Purist thought is at odds at the doubtful, humility filled philosophy of the Founding Fathers, the willingness to say <em>I seem to be wrong<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Or this may not work out.
