Demosthenes is commonly regarded as the greatest orator of his age. Noted in &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/07\/27\/schools-violate-student-speech-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Now we see the wisdom of the high court\u2019s \u2018vulgar cheerleader\u2019 ruling<\/em><\/a>,&#8221; George Will, <em><strong>WaPo<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">His school suspended and then expelled C.G. for a year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ca10.uscourts.gov\/sites\/ca10\/files\/opinions\/010110706275.pdf\">citing<\/a>\u00a0school district policies forbidding, inter alia, behavior \u201con or off school property\u201d that is \u201cdetrimental to the welfare, safety or morals of other students or school personnel.\u201d This absurdity, occasioned by a bad joke, was unconstitutional, given what the Supreme Court\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/594\/20-255\/#tab-opinion-4442730\">said<\/a> about the ninth-grader who, when she failed to make the varsity cheerleading team, posted on Snapchat \u2014 off campus and after school hours \u2014 a picture of her raised middle finger, and a teenager philippic, about half of it consisting of profanity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Philippic: Philippic is discourse (traditionally an oration) that is characterized by fierce condemnation of a subject; a diatribe or rant.
