Peroutka\u00a0declared<\/a>\u00a0in 2014 that the Maryland General Assembly was no longer a legitimate governing body because its support for marriage equality violated God\u2019s law, and that therefore none of the laws it passed were \u201clegally valid and legally enforceable.\u201d<\/p>\n Peroutka was a board member of the Confederacy-celebrating, pro-Southern-secessionist League of the South. At the group\u2019s 2012 national convention, he led the crowd in singing \u201cDixie,\u201d which he referred to as \u201cthe national anthem.\u201d He quit the League in 2014 when he decided to run for the Anne Arundel County Council,\u00a0claiming<\/a>\u00a0unconvincingly that he had been unaware of the group\u2019s racism.<\/p>\n Peroutka founded the Institute on the Constitution, a\u00a0Christian Reconstructionist<\/a>\u00a0organization that\u00a0favors<\/a>\u00a0religious tests for public office and\u00a0teaches<\/a>\u00a0that the government\u2019s role is to enforce God\u2019s law, and that the government has no legitimate authority to \u201chouse, feed, clothe, educate, or give health care to\u2026ANYBODY!\u201d [Right Wing Watch<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Peroutka would no doubt chase former Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) out of the Party with a rolling pin in hand. It’s clear that he has no concept of Justice, just a Trust in God<\/em> approach, and since he gets to specify God’s instructions, you can bet, well, it makes it easy to justify damn silliness.
