For those of us who prefer a rational approach to the world, this Gallup<\/strong><\/em> poll<\/a> is somewhat encouraging:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>It suggests that the Americans who once preferred the intellectually lazy position of according the Bible a literalist interpretation have given up that position for a more difficult, but satisfying position of either “inspired by God”, or “Fables.”<\/p>\n

Or they just died off and were never replaced. Such are the ways of new generations.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the closest to the atheist \/ agnostic position, “Fables…”, has moved from 13% to 29%.<\/p>\n

For all that the evangelists and their literalist cousins seem to dominate discourse, they’re actually fading away in numbers, influence, and importance. Know hope.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
