{"id":35854,"date":"2022-05-11T17:22:34","date_gmt":"2022-05-11T22:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=35854"},"modified":"2022-05-11T17:22:34","modified_gmt":"2022-05-11T22:22:34","slug":"that-cloudy-crystal-ball-ctd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2022\/05\/11\/that-cloudy-crystal-ball-ctd\/","title":{"rendered":"That Cloudy Crystal Ball, Ctd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Convenient news about yesterday&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2022\/05\/10\/that-cloudy-crystal-ball\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supposition<\/a> that at least some conservative voters, this time in Nebraska, won&#8217;t put up with candidates with dubious sexual reputations:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\">Donald Trump failed to deliver a victory Tuesday in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-primary-elections\/nebraska-governor-results?icid=election_nav\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nebraska GOP primary<\/a>\u00a0for a gubernatorial candidate accused of groping multiple women, NBC News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-primary-elections\/nebraska-house-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">projects<\/a>, handing the former president his first loss of this year\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-primary-elections\/west-virginia-house-results?icid=election_nav\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">election<\/a>\u00a0season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">University of Nebraska Regent Jim Pillen won the party\u2019s nomination after a heated contest, defeating a state senator and self-funding businessman Charles Herbster, whom Trump campaigned for last week even after eight women \u2014 including a Republican state senator \u2014 accused Trump&#8217;s favored candidate of inappropriately touching or kissing them against their will.<em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-election\/west-virginia-nebraska-primary-elections-voters-polls-rcna27688\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>NBC News<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Certainly, I&#8217;m speculating that it was the allegations, made plausible by volume and source, that repelled Nebraska conservative voters &#8211; or maybe the independents and Democrats flooded the primary as well, although the lack of other primary surprises makes this unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>But that may be the limit at the moment. In West Virginia, the number of seats in the House was reduced by one due to the recent Census, pitting two <em><strong>GOP<\/strong><\/em> House members against each other in a primary. Who lost?<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">Rep. David B. McKinley (R-W.Va.)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/elections\/election-results\/west-virginia\/2022-primaries\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lost his bid<\/a> for a seventh term on Tuesday because he voted for the bipartisan infrastructure bill. His double-digit defeat in West Virginia\u2019s GOP primary, which largely turned on infrastructure spending, best illustrates why President Biden\u2019s governing theory has failed.<em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/05\/10\/mckinley-west-virginia-mooney\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WaPo<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\">This despite McKinley&#8217;s TrumpScore was better than his opponent&#8217;s! Perhaps West Virginians are behind Nebraska and Michigan in separating from Trump.
