Their \u201cRapture Index,\u201d \u2014 on which any reading above 160 means \u201cFasten your seatbelts\u201d \u2014 was raised this week to 187, close to its record high of 189 in 2016.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Which leaves me to wonder, <em>At what number do they stop believing that a Rapture will ever occur? At what number do they stop believing in God?<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One of the most detailed alerts came from televangelist Pat Robertson, who came out of retirement on Feb. 28 to assert on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www1.cbn.com\/cbnnews\/2022\/february\/god-is-getting-ready-to-do-something-amazing-founder-pat-robertson-on-russia-and-its-place-in-prophecy\">\u201cThe 700 Club\u201d<\/a>\u00a0that Russian President Vladimir Putin was \u201ccompelled by God\u201d to invade Ukraine as a prelude to an eventual climactic battle in Israel. Robertson said verses of the Old Testament Book of Ezekiel support this scenario.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can say, well, Putin\u2019s out of his mind. Yes, maybe so,\u201d Robertson said. \u201cBut at the same time, he\u2019s being compelled by God. He went into the Ukraine, but that wasn\u2019t his goal. His goal was to move against Israel, ultimately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all there,\u201d added Robertson, referring to Ezekiel. \u201cAnd God is getting ready to do something amazing and that will be fulfilled.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Which leaves me with the terrifying visual of God as sock-puppet guy. Poor Vlad, eh? But I suppose it absolves him of guilt.<\/p>\n<p>Or does it?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Robertson&#8217;s conception of God, and interpretation of the Bible, bedevils &#8211; if you&#8217;ll permit &#8211; the idea of free will, which in turn leads to a God that&#8217;s, at best, juvenile in behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Bah, the whole thing is silly.
