Vice notes another lurid fantasy connected to Covid-19<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

Fuellmich isn\u2019t a familiar name to most people. But for many of those sucked into\u00a0conspiracy theories around COVID-19,<\/a>\u00a0he has become one of the most influential figures in the world. Thousands of people worldwide are clinging to the fantasy that he will soon be leading a major prosecution of world leaders, scientists and journalists, placing them on trial for \u201ccrimes against humanity\u201d for their role in supposedly engineering a false pandemic.<\/p>\n

His followers believe these trials will carry global historical significance, so much so that they\u2019ve become known as \u201cNuremberg 2.0\u201d in reference to the trials of Nazi leaders that took place after World War 2. Jan Rathje, a political scientist and researcher at German anti-extremism think tank\u00a0Cemas<\/a>, said the notion of a \u201csecond Nuremberg\u201d \u2013 framed as mass trials of treacherous \u201celites\u201d \u2013 was already familiar to many in the far-right before becoming synonymous with Fuellmich\u2019s legal battle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe concept of a second Nuremberg trials has been present in far-right circles for a number of years, and it\u2019s connected to ideas of revenge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

This push for a \u201cNuremberg 2.0\u201d is gaining traction within the increasingly-interconnected global anti-lockdown scene. Rathje said that mentions of the term in German Telegram groups jumped from virtually zero to over 1,000 a day in April. The term trended on Twitter in the UK this summer, and in August, a man interrupted a police press conference in Sydney, Australia,\u00a0shouting \u201cNuremberg 2.0\u201d<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And how do you punish a guy like this?<\/p>\n

Ignore him. Let him crash and burn and then never hire him for important work again. Let him represent DUIs in court. I think that, because he was involved in the recent Volkswagen<\/strong><\/em> cheating scandal<\/a>, he’s willing to see conspiracies everywhere.<\/p>\n

Or maybe he’s on the up and up?<\/p>\n

The committee\u2019s \u201cfindings\u201d, which are broadcast weekly on his website in multi-hour-long sessions, read like a glossary of every COVID conspiracy going. Hosted by Fuellmich and three other lawyers, it comes across as an official-looking enquiry \u2013 similar to what a government might set up after a national disaster.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s really just a series of interviews with various figures from the international conspiracy milieu, pushing myths about COVID-19: that the pandemic was planned by secret global elites, that vaccines are a deadly form of population control. According to Rathje, the committee has been the source of viral disinformation, such as a claim that vaccines\u00a0violate the Nuremberg Code<\/a> established after World War 2, because they are medical experiments that people haven\u2019t consented to.
