Cardiac tissue cells immediately start doing what they&#8217;re meant to do, contract in rhythm with electrical signals &#8212; no surprise &#8212; even before they&#8217;ve formed any kind of enclosed pump, much less 4 chambers of a heart. And it only makes sense from an evolutionary point of view.
