{"id":3424,"date":"2016-04-10T10:01:56","date_gmt":"2016-04-10T15:01:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=3424"},"modified":"2016-04-10T10:01:56","modified_gmt":"2016-04-10T15:01:56","slug":"current-project-ctd-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2016\/04\/10\/current-project-ctd-13\/","title":{"rendered":"Current Project, Ctd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Due to a couple\u00a0of minor illnesses (head colds), and then the terminal illness of <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2016\/04\/07\/r-i-p-mischief\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mischief<\/a>, this <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2016\/01\/17\/current-project-ctd-12\/\" target=\"_blank\">project<\/a> has been on hiatus for a couple of months. With the passing of Mischief, I hope to have some free time to return to work on it, which, to recap, is the implementation of a validating XML parser for <a href=\"http:\/\/mythryl.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mythryl<\/a>\u00a0using recursive descent techniques. A possible barrier is that we still have Mischief&#8217;s brother Mayhem, who was tightly bonded with his sister and is now seeking extended lap time with the two of us.<\/p>\n<p>I am self-aware enough to ask myself why I&#8217;m working on this project, since, after all, there appears to be very little interest in the language, and its main proponent, developer, and janitorial staff, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cynbe_ru_Taren\" target=\"_blank\">Cynbe ru Taren<\/a>, has lung cancer (further discussed <a href=\"http:\/\/mythryl.org\/pipermail\/mythryl\/2015-October\/000932.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) and thus cannot devote as much time as he might like to it. It appears to be a dead-end language in the otherwise promising field of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Functional_programming\" target=\"_blank\">functional languages<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I mentioned this conundrum to my wife, and her answer was, of course, supportive. Paraphrased: &#8220;It makes you think in a different away about programming problems, and stretching the mind is always a good thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And I do like tilting at the occasional passing windmill.
