De fide<\/b><\/i>\u00a0(of the faith) is a “theological note<\/a>” “theological qualification” that indicates that some religious doctrine is an\u00a0essential part<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0Catholic faith<\/a>\u00a0and that denial of it is\u00a0heresy<\/a>.[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The doctrine is\u00a0de fide divina et ecclesiastica<\/b><\/i>\u00a0(of divine and ecclesiastical faith), if contained in the sources of revelation and therefore believed to have been revealed by God (de fide divina<\/b><\/i>) and if taught by the Church (de fide ecclesiastica<\/b><\/i>).
