{"id":32605,"date":"2021-04-06T20:26:09","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T01:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=32605"},"modified":"2021-04-06T20:26:09","modified_gmt":"2021-04-07T01:26:09","slug":"cognitive-dissonance-of-the-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2021\/04\/06\/cognitive-dissonance-of-the-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Cognitive Dissonance Of The Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <em><strong>National Rifle Association&#8217;s<\/strong><\/em> (<strong><em>NRA<\/em><\/strong>) bankruptcy is now in court, and executive vice president Wayne LaPierre has made a rather mind-boggling admission:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\">Embattled National Rifle Association chief Wayne LaPierre feared for his safety after mass shootings in recent years, forcing him to take refuge aboard a friend&#8217;s luxury yacht, the gun rights advocate testified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">LaPierre made the admission in a deposition connected to the NRA&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/nra-seeks-bankruptcy-protection-plans-move-new-york-texas-n1254466\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bankruptcy case in Dallas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;They simply let me use it as a security retreat because they knew the threat that I was under. And I was basically under presidential threat without presidential security in terms of the number of threats I was getting,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.txnb.490758\/gov.uscourts.txnb.490758.468.2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LaPierre said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;And all of us were struggling with how to deal with that type situation with a private citizen with the amount of threat that we were having. And this was the one place that I hope could feel safe, where I remember getting there going, &#8216;Thank God I&#8217;m safe, nobody can get me here.&#8217; And that&#8217;s how it happened. That&#8217;s why I used it.&#8221;\u00a0<em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/nra-chief-sought-refuge-mass-shootings-friend-s-luxury-yacht-n1263147\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>NBC News<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And just how bad was it?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I actually thought that given the security threat that I was under and the fact that NRA was \u2014 was at almost a loss as to how to protect somebody with the amount of threat that I was having, that \u2014 that my work and the threat that came with it, this was \u2014 was a place that I could go and be safe, and it was related to that that I \u2014 that I \u2014 that I did it,&#8221; he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/DEFCON\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>DEFCON<\/strong><\/a> level &#8220;incoherent,&#8221; evidently. Just like being under a Presidential threat makes any real sense at all.<\/p>\n<p>Look, what I want to know is <em>Who&#8217;s doing the threatening?<\/em> Is this a bunch of big, bad liberals? Or are the Russians angry that the American populace is heavily armed and Putin can&#8217;t risk an invasion?<\/p>\n<p>Or is another member of the <strong><em>NRA<\/em><\/strong> board looking to move up in the organization?<\/p>\n<p>LaPierre can&#8217;t stand the thought of actually living in the society that he&#8217;s helped to create, and that&#8217;s all kinds of weird, but it makes sense, given the character of the conservative movement.
