Stratum<\/em>:<\/p>\n

In\u00a0geology<\/a>\u00a0and related fields, a\u00a0stratum<\/b>\u00a0(plural:\u00a0strata<\/b>) is a layer of\u00a0sedimentary rock<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0soil<\/a>, or\u00a0igneous rock<\/a>\u00a0that was formed at the Earth’s surface,[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0with internally consistent characteristics that distinguish it from other layers. The “stratum” is the fundamental unit in a stratigraphic column and forms the basis of the study of\u00a0stratigraphy<\/a>. A stratum can be seen in almost every single country in the world.
