{"id":30360,"date":"2020-08-31T15:41:02","date_gmt":"2020-08-31T20:41:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=30360"},"modified":"2020-08-31T15:41:02","modified_gmt":"2020-08-31T20:41:02","slug":"that-law-of-unintended-consequences-ctd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2020\/08\/31\/that-law-of-unintended-consequences-ctd\/","title":{"rendered":"That Law Of Unintended Consequences, Ctd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2020\/08\/17\/that-law-of-unintended-consequences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">campaign to get Kanye West<\/a> on the November election ballot has attained a cartoon-like quality:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>West\u2019s lawsuit\u00a0on Friday\u00a0requested that the local court rule that his nominating papers met the submission deadline to ensure that he appears on the swing state\u2019s ballot in November after he narrowly appeared to miss the state\u2019s filing deadline.<\/p>\n<p>While the WEC\u00a0voted\u00a0to dismiss the rapper\u2019s petition on the basis of its lateness,\u00a0West\u2019s attorneys\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/sites\/default\/files\/kanye_west_summons_complaint.pdf\">contend in the complaint<\/a>\u00a0that Wisconsin\u2019s deadline expires one minute after 5 p.m., making West\u2019s submission which reportedly arrived seconds after 5 p.m. valid.<\/p>\n<p>The news of West\u2019s address on the lawsuit being tied to the RNC, is the latest evidence that the hiphop icon is being\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/news\/kanye-west-campaign-helped-by-multiple-gop-election-pros\">boosted by GOP strategists<\/a> to drive votes away from the Democratic presidential ticket.\u00a0<em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/news\/kanye-west-wisconsin-ballot-lawsuit-linked-to-firm-of-former-rnc-chief-counsel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Talking Points Memo<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Extend the deadline for us by one minute. Because, what, they&#8217;re special? Amazing.<\/p>\n<p>And I remain fascinated by the possibility that this maneuver will unwittingly serve as a repository for a protest vote <em>for Republicans<\/em>, and not the apparent goal of giving Democrats or members of the black community who may be uncomfortable with Biden, or have no faith that the Democrats will work to eliminate racism in America, an alternative voting option. This is illustrated by the last quoted paragraph, above.<\/p>\n<p>West has made it on the ballot here in Minnesota.
