On October 19, @nyttypos\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nyttypos\/status\/1185461254422446081\">spotted<\/a>\u00a0a \u201chappened\u201d instead of a \u201chappen\u201d in a story about Brexit; a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nyttypos\/status\/1185649183589634048\">missing space<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nyttypos\/status\/1185649695638642690\">picture<\/a>\u00a0of three people captioned with five names in a story about TikTok clubs; a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nyttypos\/status\/1185383582002495488\">missing comma<\/a>\u00a0and a \u201cstatue\u201d in place of a \u201cstatute\u201d in a story about President Donald Trump\u2019s attempt to host the G7 Summit at his own Doral resort; a subject-verb agreement\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nyttypos\/status\/1185678577863401472\">error<\/a>\u00a0in a story about Venezuela\u2019s water quality; a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nyttypos\/status\/1185643714930204673\">misplaced comma<\/a>\u00a0in a story about Bernie Sanders accepting an endorsement from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nyttypos\/status\/1185426344898904065\">missing space<\/a>\u00a0between quotation marks and a quote in a story about Turkey\u2019s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Having myself been slimed by typos in a local newspaper story about students excelling at the <strong>PSATs<\/strong> in high school &#8211; I was the big shocker as I was a real slacker in school &#8211; as being named <em>H Kenny White<\/em>, I have a certain sympathy with this dude, whoever he is.<\/p>\n<p>Still, this guy is a bit whacko. Before the copy-edit desk at <em><strong>TNYT<\/strong><\/em> was dissolved, it was manned by one hundred professionals. Now there&#8217;s just this guy.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p id=\"fhdH54\">When he corners his typo prey, @nyttypos typically screenshots the problematic passage and tags the author and\/or any editors he believes may be responsible (or respons<em>ive<\/em>). Although he could catch more typos with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/arnold-the-grammarian-11591983228\">honey<\/a>\u00a0than with vinegar, his tweets tend toward acetic acid. \u201cFunctionally illiterate\u201d is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%40nyttypos%20functionally%20illiterate&amp;src=typed_query\">go-to put-down<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of a paradox in that if he just wants to fix the mistakes, he\u2019s hurting his chances of doing so because reporters are probably tuning him out, maybe actually muting him or blocking him,\u201d Bailey says. \u201cBut he\u2019s probably building more of a following among random people on Twitter who like to see someone dunk on the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0about backward quotation marks.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The article is more than just coverage of the dude, though. It also gives insight into <strong><em>TNYT<\/em><\/strong>.
