Presidents should always be subjected to tough questions, so I was a little disappointed in Fox News<\/strong><\/em>‘ Chris Wallace’s response to a President Trump reaction to one of his questions:<\/p>\n

In Sunday\u2019s interview, Wallace noted that new cases had far outpaced increases in testing over the past month. He also confronted Trump about his incorrect and oft-repeated\u00a0predictions<\/a>\u00a0that the virus would \u201cdisappear.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI will be right eventually,\u201d Trump told the host. \u201cYou know I said, \u2018It\u2019s going to disappear.\u2019 I\u2019ll say it again.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cDoes that discredit you?\u201d Wallace asked.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Trump said he didn\u2019t think so. \u201cIt\u2019s going to disappear, and I\u2019ll be right,\u201d he said. [WaPo<\/strong><\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The problem, of course, is that it’s an open-ended question, although even at that the novel coronavirus, aka SARS-CoV-2<\/strong>, may become part of the background population of human-affective viruses for centuries.<\/p>\n

But the proper response from Wallace should have been,<\/p>\n

Mr. President, how many more Americans will become infected and die before SARS-CoV-2<\/strong> disappears?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And if the President doesn’t walk away on that question, a splendid follow up would be this:<\/p>\n

Do you approve of “magical thinking” in Presidents? Doesn’t that simply lead to governmental paralysis as we wait for God to reach down and snuff out the virus?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
