{"id":29191,"date":"2020-06-26T16:58:16","date_gmt":"2020-06-26T21:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/?p=29191"},"modified":"2020-06-26T16:58:16","modified_gmt":"2020-06-26T21:58:16","slug":"another-gap-in-their-teeth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huewhite.com\/umb\/2020\/06\/26\/another-gap-in-their-teeth\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Gap In Their Teeth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Perhaps not the largest hit to the mall scene, but it&#8217;s a bit woeful when one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/2020\/06\/26\/microsoft-store-announces-new-approach-to-retail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">world&#8217;s largest corporations<\/a> is pulling out of your mall:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/\">Microsoft Corp.<\/a> (NASDAQ: MSFT)\u00a0(\u201cMicrosoft\u201d)\u00a0today announced a strategic change in its retail operations, including closing Microsoft Store physical locations. The company\u2019s retail team members will continue to serve customers from Microsoft corporate facilities and remotely providing sales, training, and support. Microsoft will continue to invest in its digital storefronts on Microsoft.com, and stores in Xbox and Windows,\u00a0reaching more than 1.2 billion people every\u00a0month in 190 markets. The company will also reimagine spaces that serve\u00a0all customers, including operating Microsoft Experience Centers in London, NYC, Sydney, and Redmond campus locations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The concept and team are not gone, just the storefronts.<\/p>\n<p>So that means a hole at the local <strong>Mall of America<\/strong> (MoA); I don&#8217;t recall if there&#8217;s a <strong>Microsoft Store<\/strong> at <strong>Rosedale<\/strong>, which is a lot smaller than <strong>MoA<\/strong>., but I do believe there&#8217;s an <strong>Apple Store<\/strong> at both locations.<\/p>\n<p>This will put yet more stress on the bricks &amp; mortar sector. Not that it means much in the overall scheme of things, but it does contribute to making real life retail, where people meet, buy, sell, even court and marry, slowly fade from the American scene.<\/p>\n<p>Or will it?
