It’s been a hallmark of Trump’s candidacy and Administration that his accusations, as wild and profligate as they can be, are often based on a shred of truth concerning himself. We’ve seen this with his response to Clinton’s accusation during the debates of Trump being a Russian puppet with his childish retort that she was the puppet, for example.<\/p>\n
So, last night when we saw the baffling clip of President Trump asserting there’s a scandal out there called Obamagate, and “everyone” knows about it, I was, secondarily, baffled, but primarily left wondering just what the hell is now brewing in the super-swamp known as the Trump Administration. From<\/a> whitehouse.gov<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n Q\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mr. President, in one of your Mother\u2019s Day tweets, you appear to accuse President Obama of the biggest political crime in American history, by far.<\/p>\n THE PRESIDENT:\u00a0 Yeah.<\/p>\n Q\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Those were your words.\u00a0 What crime exactly are you accusing President Obama of committing?\u00a0 And do you believe the Justice Department should prosecute him?<\/p>\n THE PRESIDENT:\u00a0 \u201cObamagate.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s been going on for a long time.\u00a0 It\u2019s been going on from before I even got elected.\u00a0 And it\u2019s a disgrace that it happened.\u00a0 And if you look at what\u2019s gone on, and if you look at, now, all of this information that\u2019s being released \u2014 and from what I understand, that\u2019s only the beginning \u2014 some terrible things happened, and it should never be allowed to happen in our country again.<\/p>\n And you\u2019ll be seeing what\u2019s going on over the next \u2014 over the coming weeks.\u00a0 But I \u2014 and I wish you\u2019d write honestly about it, but unfortunately, you choose not to do so.<\/p>\n Yeah.\u00a0 Jon, please.<\/p>\n Q\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What is the crime exactly that you\u2019re accusing him of?<\/p>\n THE PRESIDENT:\u00a0 You know what the crime is.\u00a0 The crime is very obvious to everybody.\u00a0 All you have to do is read the newspapers, except yours.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Watergate<\/strong><\/a> was, of course, possibly the biggest scandal in American political history. Trying to redirect everyone’s attention to an Obamagate just makes me wonder: what does Trump have his fingers into now? The testing shortages, scandalous as they are, don’t really equate to Watergate<\/strong>.
